Mamprusis and Kusasis in Kumasi have pledged to live in peace and avoid provoking each other into any nasty clashes.
This followed the successful mediation by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of the recent conflict between the two ethnic groups at the
Asawasi Market over the wearing of a "T" Shirt, one of the groups found offensive.
There were reported injuries on both sides during the violent skirmishes.
The Asantehene responded by directing the Nsumankwaahene, Baffour Domfe Gyeabour III, to broker the peace between them.
The Nsumakwaahene traditionally has responsibility for chiefs and elected community heads in Kumasi, originally from outside the Ashanti Region.
In a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU) signed by leaders of the two factions after the mediation, they agreed not to put on public display
any "T" Shirt or item that would bring them to the slippery slope towards confrontation.
They would also refrain from casting insinuations on each other.
The leaders further pledged to counsel their people to be law abiding and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
Chief Azuma E. Ndagu, Abdul Rahama Mumuni, Issah Adoko - Sarkin Samasu and Ali Taller Mohammed, were the signatories to the MOU from the
side of the Kusasis.
Those, who signed for the Mamprusis were Chief Ibrahim Baba, Mahamadu Nabia, Batesima Saley and Abdul Rahman Sulley.
