The Rotary Club of Tema, on Wednesday handed over a renovated library to the Gbetsile Complex School, at the cost of 16,500 Ghana Cedis.
The Club has also stocked the library with quality books donated by their partners in the United States called Brothers Brother Foundation.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Mrs Elizabeth Amoah-Tetteh, Deputy Minister of Education, who received the facility on behalf of the chiefs and people in the community, noted that, "the greatness and success of anybody in education begins with reading and of course, reading quality books."
Mrs Amoah-Tetteh pledged the Ministry's continuous support for organisations desirous to provide communities, especially school children,
with some of their basic learning needs.
She urged teachers and parents to ensure that the children patronized the library effectively.
Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Minister of State and Member of Parliament for the area, who donated 10 computers to the school, charged education authorities to appoint professional librarians to man school libraries.
Mr Kwesi Hutchful, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, urged teachers of the school, to assist the children to acquire library etiquette.
Mr John Bisiw, President of the Tema Rotary Club, expressed satisfaction that with the handing-over, the club was fulfilling one of its
core aspirations of striving for the development of the Youth through literacy programmes.
These programmes, he said, included the distribution of books to schools, adding that so far, Rotary had distributed over 45 million dollars worth of books to schools throughout the country.
The Tema Rotary President thanked the State Insurance Company (SIC), the major sponsor, whose kind gesture, he said, led to the successful
implementation and handing-over of the project.
Nii Kwaku Teye, Chief of Gbetsile, thanked Rotarians for selecting the town for the project, and expressed the hope that other public-spirited
organisations would come to the aid of the community with other basic amenities.
Mr Samuelson Tetteh Allenge, Assemblyman for the town, appealed to the TMA and the Metropolitan Directorate of Education to provide the community with a Senior High School.
