A District Magistrate's Court at Kade on Wednesday remanded into prison custody Yaw Danso, a farmer, and Samuel Boateng Amaning, a labourer, for conspiracy to steal, stealing and causing harm.
The accused persons, who pleaded not guilty, would reappear on May 28.
Inspector Francis Cobbina told the court that the complainant, Moses Ledi, a security man, on May 4 at about 0130 hours went to see off two
female friends, who visited him the previous evening.
The prosecution said that after the security man parted company with the ladies and was going home, the accused persons attacked and ordered him
(security man) to surrender his mobile phone with which he was making a call.
Insp. Cobbina said that the security man defied the order and the accused persons forcibly collected the mobile phone and a bunch of keys from him.
The prosecution said that when the complainant shouted for help, Danso and Amaning fled leaving behind a cutlass one of them was holding.
Insp. Cobbina said that the complainant hurled the cutlass at the accused persons and inflicted wound on Danso's leg but he and Amaning
managed to escape.
The prosecution said that during the struggle with his assailants, the complainant sustained injuries on his arm and chin and he rushed to the Police station and made a report.
Insp. Cobbina said that on the day of the accident at about 1030 hours, the Police received information from authorities of the Government Hospital at Kade that a man with cutlass wound on his leg was admitted there.
The prosecution told the court that when the Police went to the hospital and found Amaning in blood-stained dress, he was arrested.
Insp. Cobbina said that Amaning led the Police to Danso who was on drip at the hospital and as soon as Danso saw the Police he removed the drip and attempted to escape but he was arrested.
The prosecution said that when a search was carried out on Amaning a mobile phone, bunch of keys and a phone battery were found on him.
Insp. Cobbina said that the complainant identified the items as his.
The prosecution said that Amaning told the Police that he found the items in Danso's trousers at the hospital but Danso denied the claim.
The magistrate advised the prosecution to reconsider changing the charge of stealing to robbery and commit the accused to a circuit court at Asamankese.
