Mr Vincent Adzato-Ntem, Volta Regional Coordinating Director, has called on municipal and District Implementation Committees in the upcoming population and housing census to undertake this national assignment devoid of partisan politics.
He said census was a grave national exercise and political die-hards and activists in the Committees should opt out.
Mr Adzato-Ntem made the remark at the inauguration of the Hohoe Municipal and Kadjebi District Census Implementation Committees (M/DICs), at separate sessions at Hohoe and Kadjebi respectively, on Thursday.
The 13-member Committee each, is chaired by the District Coordinating Directors (DCDs) of Hohoe Municipal and Kadjebi District, namely, Mr Hope Howusu and Mr William Meledi respectively.
Mr Adzato-Ntem enumerated the advantages of census data as providing critical reference to ensure equity in the distribution of resources,
government services, reviewing the electoral areas, updates demographic and socio-economic characteristics in a particular period.
He said the main objective of the M/DICs was to decentralise the management of the 2010 Census exercise for best outcomes, and challenged the
Committee members to stand up to the task.
Mrs Augusta Okantey, Volta Regional Statistician, said all individuals irrespective of nationality, health or resident status, who were within the country's borders at census night, would have their characteristics
enumerated.
She said an educational campaign was necessary for the success of the 2010 Census, and urged the media and other stakeholders to collaborate towards building the capacity for smooth national data collection.
Mrs Okantey said questionnaires, manuals, cartographical mapping exercise and field operations, have already been tested in trial census, are indications of the readiness of the Ghana Statistical Service and stakeholders to kick-start the actual enumeration exercise.
She said over 50,000 field workers are being recruited for training.
Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive urged the Committee members to discharge their duties with diligence, dedication and be non-partisan, in view of its unparalleled dimension and requirements.
He pledged his administration's fullest support to the Committee's work since his jurisdiction would be a beneficiary of data to be collected for planning purposes.
The DCDs pledged their loyalties and dedication to the national call.
