A Circuit Court in Accra on Monday sentenced a
student Nana Yaw Tuffuor to 24 years imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery.
Tuffuor who pleaded not guilty allegedly robbed Madam Hetty Ayittey a caterer at gun point of her three mobile phones and jewellery at Teshie
Nungua in Accra.
The court presided over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu, discharged the accused on five counts of robbery because the five complainants did not appear to give evidence.
The court earlier acquitted and discharged Augustine Osei, Tuffours accomplice because no case was made against Osei.
The prosecution said the complainants; Damete Yeboah Ansah, a computer specialist, Amos Josiah, an estate developer and Madam Ayittey all reside at
Teshie-Nungua, a suburb in Accra.
It said on December 21, 2008 at about 10:30pm Tuffour and Osei armed with knives and locally manufactured pistols, attacked the complainants and
robbed them of 11 mobile phones and GH3,620 cash.
The prosecution said the accused persons ordered the complainants to lie down with their faces and bolted with the items but luck eluded Osei and he was arrested at his hideout at Teshie-Nungua following a tip off.
Tuffour was arrested when he went to the Nungua Police Station to offer food to some prisoners in cells and was identified as an accomplice.
