A Kumasi Circuit Court has ordered a 32-year old scrap dealer, charged with cable theft, to be held in prison custody for two weeks.
Inusah Musah faces additional charges of unlawful entry and causing damage. He pleaded not guilty.
Ali Ibrahim, 23, who is standing trial with him was, however, granted bail in the sum of GH5,000.00 with one surety.
They would both re-appear on Wednesday, September 1.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo, told the Court, presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P Amedior, that Musah and Ibrahim, are scrap dealers in Kumasi.
The complainant, George Ofori, owns a storey building at Asafo-Dadiesoaba in Kumasi, which is unoccupied.
She said for sometime now, he has been detecting the theft of cables and other valuables in the house and therefore engaged the services of a watchman.
On August 12, at about 0100 hours, Musah was caught cutting electric wires, copper pipes and an electricity meter in the building.
He was arrested and handed over to the Asokwa police.
The prosecution said Musah admitted the crime in his caution statement and later led the police to Ibrahim, whom he mentioned as one of the people
he had been selling the stolen items to.
A quantity of electric wires, pipes and an electricity meter were retrieved from a shop belonging to Ibrahim.
Mr Justice Amedior raised concern about the growing incidence of cable thefts with some criminals even cutting gas pipelines at gas filling
stations.
