Mr. Mathias Akotia, Chief Executive Officer of
Brand Ghana, said on Tuesday there was the need to re-brand Ghana to stimulate national confidence, craft national identity and provide clear and positive communication about the country and its vision.
Mr Akotia made the call when he paid a visit to the Management of Ghana News Agency to explain the objectives and benefits of Brand Ghana to the
staff.
The Brand Ghana Office was established by the government to co-ordinate the development of a compelling national image for the country.
He said some of the benefits to be derived from branding were enhanced currency stability, a healthier country for effective exports and investment and more productive cultural relations with other countries.
"Brand Ghana would provide clear, believable and positive communication of what the country really is, what it stands for and where it is going", Mr Akotia noted.
Mr Akotia pointed out that Ghana was still a low income country with a low Gross Domestic Product and investment inflows because she did not have commercial brands with international marketing support.
He cited South Africa as one of the countries enjoying economic successes due to her decision to brand herself.
Mr Akotia said Brand Ghana would be a complete outfit on its own, backed by legislative instrument and perform activities like other organizations such as the Ghana Investment Promotion Council.
"Branding Ghana would strengthen our ability as a nation to evolve", he added.
He announced that it would organize workshops and seminars in September this year to create awareness about the objectives and benefits to the
people and Ghanaians in the Diaspora.
He appealed to Management of GNA to provide maximum media reportage for its activities since the media had a lot of influence.
Nana Appau Dua, General Manager of GNA, assured Brand Ghana of management's support in covering its programmes.
Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi, Supervising Chief Editor of GNA said the Agency, would co-operate with Brand Ghana to drive the Programme to a
success.
