After mythical characters and legendary figures, it is the turn of Mother Teresa now to adorn the pages of Amar Chitra Katha (ACK), the famous comic series.
ACK is bringing out a 40-page story on the 'lady of charity' to coincide with the Mother's birth centenary this month.
The multi-colour story book traces how the Mother, an Albanian by birth, made India her home and from here reached out to the world,
especially to children, sources said.
It is after four years that Amar Chitra Katha is producing a new title, a joint venture with the Missionaries of Charity, founded by the
Nobel laureate in Kolkata, sources said.
"ACK Media is re-starting the launch of new titles in the Amar Chitra Katha series from August 2010. We will be launching a new title every two months now, with 'Mother Teresa' being the first one in the series", said Savita Pai,
VP-Product Management, Amar Chitra Katha Media.
She said the universal popularity of the Mother and her incomparable contributions to the society had made them to choose her as the comeback title of ACK.
"As her birth centenary falls on 26th August 2010, we feel it is the perfect date to launch the book and take it to every kid and household for them to learn about a noble figure like Mother and learn from her great deeds," Savita said.
The sketches of Mother Teresa, included in the book, will be in the graphic art and ACK style. To collect maximum authentic details about her life and services, it took around eight months for research by experts.
"While creating an Amar Chitra Katha, the primary concern is authenticity. We have done intense research, not just from from empirical
recorded data sources and books but coupled with meetings and interviews with people who have known the Mother closely, to form the basis of the
script", said Reena Puri, Editor, Amar Chitra Katha.
The comic would be launched pan India to ensure it was accessible to all, ACK sources said adding that ACK had plans to launch titles in various categories ranging from visionaries, historical figures, freedom fighters in future.
