The police in Bawku, in the Upper East Region, has mounted a search for one Inusah Yakubu, for allegedly murdering his wife, Hamida Abduliah, 30, on Thursday, in Bawku.
The Municipal Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Kawku Buadu Peppreah disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bawku at the weekend.
Narrating the case, ACP Peppreah said the police received a complaint from one Abduliah Kassem, father of the deceased, of house number B99/4 at Posum in the Bawku municipality that his daughter had been murdered by her husband, and intends to bury her illegally.
He said based on the information received, the police visited the house of the accused and retrieved the body, which had since been deposited at the Bolgatanga regional hospital morgue, whiles investigation is being carried out.
ACP Peppreah said in the course of interrogation, the brother of the accused, Yakubu Amidu said the deceased fell sick and admitted at the Quality health centre but died shortly.
When the GNA visited the deceased's patrimonial home, the father mentioned that there had been records where the accused had assaulted and subjected the daughter to inhuman treatment on several occasions.
He said he was not informed of his daughter's illness or death until he heard from one of his children that the sister was to be buried secretly and so he rushed to report to the police.
According to him, his in-laws should have gone by tradition and informed him about the death of his daughter before burial but since that was not done, he suspects foul play.
The administrator of the Quality health centre in Bawku, Mr Sandow Zibrim told the GNA that the deceased was brought to the facility unconscious at about 0815 hours and died at 0830 hours the same day. He said the personnel who attended to the woman did not notice any sign of assault.
Meanwhile, as at Saturday afternoon, the accused had still not been found and the police were continuing their search.
