Some parents in Ejisu Juaben Municipality whose wards are waiting to enter the senior high school have expressed their displeasure about the unfair treatment being meted out to them by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education.
Madam Abena Serwaa, spokesperson of the aggrieved parents, told the media that it was time parents in the country stood up and compel the GES to do the right thing in the educational sector.
She said getting placements for their wards in senior high schools has become a nightmare adding "we have been asked to buy a card at a bank before we can get SHS placement forms for our wards which should not be the case."
Madam Abena Serwaa said some years back, forms were sent to the former schools of the students for free but the GES had asked parents to buy a card at the cost of GH¢ 4 before they could assess the form, she noted.
Madam Serwaa said not all parents could afford such an amount at a short notice and even if they could, they had to travel to big towns to buy cards at the banks.
She said that they had been finding it difficult to get access to internet cafés to print the form adding that after struggling to the café they had to try several times before they could print the form.
Madam Serwaa observed that parents who resided in the villages had to spend about GH¢10 before getting the SHS placement form for their wards which brought additional financial burden on them.
The spokesperson said even if GES wanted to sell the SHS placement forms, it could send them to the various junior high schools to enable the students to buy them instead of going through such tough times before getting the forms.
