oseph Nartey, unemployed, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody until October 4.
His accomplice, Issifu Sulemana, who was arrested shortly after the robbery, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in hard labour on August 8.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that the two on July 6 at Kade attacked Frederick Agyei, who had arrived with others from Accra to erect a Telecommunication Mast and robbed him of one Sony Erickson mobile phone, a Nokia phone battery, a beads necklace and an amount of GH¢40.00
He explained that the complainant on the night of his arrival at Kade, went out around 2200 hours with two others to buy food.
Whilst in town they decided to get some drinks from a bar at the Kade market.
The prosecutor said the complainant went out to urinate at a distance only to be attacked by Nartey and Sulemana with a stick and a knife.
They ordered him to surrender whatever he had on him and succeeded in robbing him of the items and the cash.
They also beat the complainant with the stick and run away.
On July 11, the complainant spotted Sulemana at the Kade main bus stop wearing his stolen beads necklace and caused his arrest.
In this caution statement to the police, Sulemana admitted the offence and said he and Nartey shared the GH¢ 40 equally while Nartey absconded with the mobile phone.
