President John Evans Atta Mills on Wednesday entreated the leadership of the Muslim Community in Ghana to step up education among the Muslim faithful on the need for national unity and
peace for rapid socio-economic development.
He acknowledged the God factor in the progress of nations, and expressed the need to strengthen the spiritual foundation of the nation, explaining
that any nation that rejected God was not on the path of development.
President Mills made the appeal prior to a close-door meeting with the leadership of the Muslim community, attended by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu, at the Peduase Lodge, near Aburi to discuss issues of national concern.
He said Government was stepping up efforts to address a number of issues as renewed increase of armed robbery cases, political polarisation, politics of insults, car snatching, and raising of false alarms, among others.
This is the second time President Mills has met with religious leaders after a first one with the leadership of the Christian Community earlier this month.
The meeting acknowledged the need for the religous leaders to back Government to succeed in its programmes and achieve set targets to better
the lives of the citizenry.
Sheikh Sharabutu appealed to Government to help improve education in the Muslim communities and the Zongos.
Also present at the meeting was Maulvi Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission in Ghana.
