Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has urged teachers to take advantage of the numerous opportunities provided by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to upgrade themselves and improve on their professional competence.
He cited the "distance learning programme" and "study leave with pay" as some of the chances they should seize to enhance their career.
Mr Onyinah was interacting with teachers in the Offinso North District at Akomadan during a day's tour of the area.
He drew attention to the need for them to be disciplined, hard working and dedicated to the job to raise academic performance of the schools.
Mr Onyinah called for effective supervision in the schools to prevent lateness and absenteeism, saying, everything should be done to ensure that
school contact hours were effectively utilized.
The Regional Education Director later inspected facilities at the Akomadan and Nkenkansu Senior High schools.
The Nkenkansu SHS, established by the local community, was absorbed into the public education system this academic year.
