The Yes Community Action for Effective Development(YCAED) and the "Africa Si", a Kumasi and Spain based NGOs respectively, have donated 50 computers to five Kranka Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Nkoranza North District.
The beneficiary schools included Kranka Islamic JHS, Kranka District Assembly JHS as well as Baafi, Manso and Sikaa District assembly JHS.
Mr. Saiid Yebua, President,YCAED, who made the donation at Kranka over the weekend said the offer was to enhance the teaching and learning of
Information Communication and technology (ICT)in the schools.
Mr. Yebua said the lack of computers in the rural and deprived schools was affecting the education of the youth in such places and said the gesture was to address the challenges of poor and rural students.
He announced the intentions of the donor organisations to construct computer laboratory centres on the various campuses to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT as well as the skills in maintaining the machine.
Mr. Yebua asked the teachers and students to ensure that the computers are handled with care.
Mr. Mcstaf Jackson Twumasi, a representative from "Africa Si" disclosed that the leadership of the organisations has plans to initiate community sensitization programmes in the area to promote the health needs of the people.
According to Mr. Twumasi, they would organise health talks and video shows on the causes and effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in a bid to save lives in the communities.
In an address read on his behalf, the Nkoranza North District Director of Education, Mr. Appiah Kusi was full of praise to Mr. Yebua for considering the plight of the rural youth and offering them the necessary support.
Mr. Kusi urged the community leaders of the school communities to ensure the safety and security of the computers.
The district director of education however gave the assurance that he would try to employ watchmen to ensure the security of all the school
materials in the communities.
Alhaji Alhassan Oppong, founder of the Kranka Islamic Basic School and Mr. Paul Kyei chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the District Assembly JHS commended the donor organisations for their kind gesture to the community schools.
Nana ofori Amisare Okofo, the eigth, Akwamuhene of Nkoranza, who presided, gave the assurance that the community leaders of the area are ready to release enough land for educational development programmes in the Kranka circuit.
