The headmistress of Agona Swedru Salvation Army School of the Deaf, Mrs Favoua Aflakovi has appealed to parents to send their physically challenged children to school, to enable them to become useful citizens.
She made the call when addressing traders at the Mandela Market Square, in Agona Swedru, at part of activities marking the Annual Day celebration of the School.
The theme for the celebration was "Creating awareness for patents to send their deaf children to school".
The headmistress said education is key to development, and therefore must be given to every child, adding that, God created all human beings equally, therefore there was the need to avoid
discrimination in the society.
Mrs Aflakovi said children are the future of the country and stressed the need for a proper investment in their education, to enable them to acquire the requisite skills that will make them perform creditably.
She said the school started with 24 children but now has a student population of 125, from Breman Asikuma, Agona Duakwa, Kasoa and other parts of the country.
The headmistress commended the government for including the school in the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant, and called for the completion of a GETFUND project started two
years ago, adding that, the school has no transport to convey the children to and from school.
