Mr. Emmanuel Baganiah, the Vice Rector of the Wa Polytechnic, has advised students to observe road and traffic regulations to avoid the rampant motor accidents involving them.
He said every week, there were motorbike accidents involving students of the Polytechnic and advised them to take good care of themselves.
He said motorbikes were not taxis that could be used to pick more than three or four persons and cautioned them that such practices and behaviours infringed on the traffic regulations.
Mr. Baganiah gave the advice at the launch of the Student Representative Council Ladies Week celebration of the Wa Polytechnic.
The week was on the theme: "The role of institutions in the development of female entrepreneurship."
Mr. Baganiah said polytechnics had been mandated to train job creators and not job seekers and, therefore, students must be innovative and creative by blending academic and practical education.
He urged students of the polytechnics to help develop the regions where they were located by involving women in their activities
"Our young girls must not be made to dress to please men. If women are to be liberated there is the need for legislative instrument to stop some of the activities and practices that dehumanize them", he said.
Mr. Baganiah called for active capacity building and financial empowerment of women to make them self-reliant to avoid some of them falling prey to social circumstances.
The Vice Rector advised students of the Polytechnic to be environmental friendly and not to dispose of plastic and other materials indiscriminately on the campus.
