A device with radioactive materials was recovered from a stolen car, Connecticut police said.
The nuclear density gauge, which is used to measure soil density at construction sites, was in a car that was taken in a holdup Wednesday night in Bloomfield, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.
The gauge could be dangerous, its owner, MT Group said. The company's vice president, Frank Pennisi said no radioactivity would be released "unless it is mangled in some way." It would give off less radioactivity than an X-ray, he said.
An employee of MT Group, of Wallingford, was working a second job, delivering pizzas, when he was robbed.
Pennisi said police Capt. Jeffrey Blatter called him Thursday night with news that the machine was at the station. He was not told how it was found, nor whether anyone was in custody.
Bloomfield police said they had identified suspects and tests tentatively confirmed the device is "intact."
