South Korea's foreign ministry said Monday it has launched its own page on the video-sharing site YouTube in a bid to step up communication with the public.
The ministry plans to upload video clips of its own activities and various related events on the site, www.youtube.com/mofatkr, which currently shows official press briefings by the ministry's spokesman and Minister Kim Sung-hwan's recent visit to a military base, among others.
"Videos are an effective information medium because they are more vivid than photos and give viewers a sense of being at the scene," said a ministry official. "We will work to improve the content of the material."
The project comes as the ministry stressed its commitment to using new media to strengthen dialogue with the people in its recent 2011 policy report to President Lee Myung-bak.
