Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South, has urged members of Nkoranza Students Union to regard themselves as agents of change by leading lives worthy of emulation.
He was addressing members of the Union at their annual dinner at Nkoranza at the weekend, which coincided with the handing over ceremony by the out-going executives.
The MP deplored the negative attitudes and practices of some students, who engaged in social vices and caused the general public to look down upon them and advised that as role models they should eschew such practices to gain a high sense of dignity and respect from the people.
He stressed the need for them to be thankful to their parents and guardians, who had offered them the opportunity to pursue their education, as not all people enjoyed such privilege.
Mr Amporfo-Twumasi called on the students to encourage other youth to learn hard to enable the area to produce more intellectuals, who could contribute effectively, to its growth and development.
Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, appealed to the in-coming executive members of the Union to innovative and to bring improvement in their activities.
He urged the students to use the knowledge and rich experiences they had acquired in their various institutions to bring improvement in the living standards of the people.
The DCE appealed to parents to invest much of their resources in the education of their children.
The immediate past president of the Union, Mr Stephen Kwaku Duah, said he had enrolled about 70 students into the Union and commended the MP and the DCE for their immense support and contributions towards educational programmes initiated by the Union.
Mr Augustine Kyeremeh, the in-coming president, on behalf of the new executives, expressed gratitude to members for their trust in them and gave the assurance that they would render selfless and dedicated services to enhance the development of the Union.
He called on members to remain committed to their roles and responsibilities and also to cooperate with the executives.
Mr Abubakari Ankomah, Headmaster of Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High School at Aworowa near Techiman, who presided, commended the students for organizing the dinner to share views to enhance their welfare needs and the development of Nkoranza.
Other members of the new executive are Mr Kwadwo Johnson Ankomah, Vice-President, Mr Richmond Opoku Donyina, Secretary, Mr Job Akuoko, Financial Secretary and Mr George E. Sarpong, Organiser.
