The police of northern Indian state Jammu and Kashmir will soon setup district level Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) to deal with the crime in the state.
"Special focus will be given on human trafficking issues. Anti-Human Trafficking units are being setup at the district levels to deal with the crime and criminals,"
Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Kuldeep Khoda told PTI.
DGP said this plan of constituting AHTUs will start from Jammu and Srinagar and then spread to Anantnag and Udhampur districts soon.
These units would be notified as separate "Police Stations", Khoda said, adding, "Soon it will be implemented for better policing on the crime front".
The DGP said that overall crime under various heads has reduced considerably in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Murder cases have decreased by 6 per cent, stabbing and hurt cases have shown a decrease of 13 per cent," the DGP said.
"Crime against women has shown a decrease of more than 4 per cent and offences against property has decreased by 7 per cent," he said.
We are in the process of making the crime department technology driven and an interactive website and helpline is introduced to make the department more accessible to the general public, he said.
"Consistent efforts are made for upgradation of technology to keep pace with changing scenario worldwide and to break the cyber crime network (CCN)," he said.
