Alhaji Sumani Mbo, Western Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), on Tuesday reminded Ghanaians that using unapproved stretches and routes along major roads network was a crime punishable by law.
He said in an interview with the GNA that wrongful use of the road by pedestrians had also contributed greatly to a number of road accidents.
Alhaji Mbo said “J-Walking”, walking with one’s back to on-coming vehicles, not crossing at Zebra points and avoiding traffic wardens were common road offences that were committed daily and that the commission would soon start arresting offenders.
He added, “There are lots of deviants and indiscipline on the part of drivers and road users and we can only minimize road accidents by coordinated efforts”.
