Ali Chokosi, a blind person, has commended the former Deputy Minister for Energy, Dr Kwabena Donkor, for his contributions to the development of education in the Pru District of Brong Ahafo Region.
Mr Chokosi, a single parent at Parambo Number One in the Pru District, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Dr Donkor paid the admission fee of his son, Ali Mohammed, to the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi.
He said “I was surprised because I did not know Dr Donkor,” and that he was informed that the gesture was in fulfilment of a promise the former Minister made to sponsor the best final Junior High School student to the SHS.
Mr Chokosi said his son had aggregate seven to top the district’s list of brilliant students.
In another development, Mr Ali Magrabbi Mango of Dama-Nkwanta, lauded the contribution of the ex-minister for sponsoring the education of his daughter, Ms Christiana Magrabbi who had aggregate eight at Dama-Nkwanta Presbyterian JHS and now at the Sunyani Senior High School.
It would be recalled that Dr Donkor started a pilot project early last year by organizing free extra classes for all final year JHS students in the district towards the final examinations.
Mr Mango said the former minister had promised to sponsor two best students, one boy and one girl through to SHS “and true to his word Dr Donkor has proved himself as a faithful steward”.
Mr Yaw Manu, Pru District Director of Education, commended the Minister for the gesture and advised the two students to take their studies seriously to justify the assistant they had received.
Meanwhile, Dr Donkor has also donated 100 bags of cement to the traditional council at Yeji during a fund-raising ceremony.
He said the gesture was a personal support to the two-storey community centre project under construction.
