Ghanaians have been urged to uphold the values of decency and to stop vilifying public officials.
Opanin Kwaku Owusu, a cocoa farmer, said unless this was done there could come a time when many otherwise respectable, knowledgeable and competent people would decline to serve in public offices.
His call comes on the heels of allegations of sexual harassment made against the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB), Dr Stephen Opuni.
Opanin Owusu said the situation where officials are maligned and blackmailed just for the simple reason of insisting on the right thing being done and making it difficult for some people to either “cut corners” or have their own way was totally unacceptable.
“This certainly is unhelpful to the progress of our dear nation”, he added.
The farmer asked all the people to appreciate the need to operate strictly within the confines of the law to restore sanity in the society.
