Four hundred and forty people tested HIV/AIDS positive in Nkoranza South District of Brong Ahafo last year, a report by the District Health Directorate has indicated.
The report said the figure was realised after 4,799 people had underwent various tests conducted on them in health facilities in the District.
Madam Comfort Korkor Kwame, Nkoranza South District Public Health Nurse disclosed this when she gave a talk on “the causes and effects of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS”, at an orientation workshop organised for national service personnel.
She mentioned clinical cases, blood donors, counselling and testing, mother to child transmission and ‘know your status’, as the main indicators of the results.
Madam Kwame advised the service personnel to be very careful in selecting sex partners and to guard against casual sex.
She urged them to adhere to the three preventive measures against contracting the HIV/AIDS pandemic, dubbed the “A B C”, which translated to mean Abstinence, Be Faithful and Condom use”.
Speaking on “the Role of Service Personnel in the School Community, Mr Kwaku Amoah-Tutu, District Assistant Director of Education in-charge of schools inspection, called on the personnel to dress decently at all times as role models.
He advised them to avoid lateness, absenteeism and laziness and to work hard to help to improve the falling standards of education in the area.
Mr Cosmos Yeboah, Human Resource Management and Development officer at the Saint Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza, urged the people to respect their heads of department and to live by the rules and regulations at their work places.
He cautioned the personnel against rebelling against authority or inciting others to disrupt activities at their workplaces.
