The Western Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourist Board, Mr Ebenezer Ayiquaye Hammond, has warned the youth especially the females to be wary of people who would throng the region as a result of the oil discovery.
He said a number of oil workers from other countries would come to the region and there was the tendency that those who might not come along with their partners might look out for female sexual partners.
Mr. Hammond who was giving talk on “the dangers of promiscuity” as part of activities marking Valentine Day on Monday, appealed to the youth in the region to be on guard to avoid contracting sexual transmitted diseases.
The Board organized the day under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism to coincide with the Universal
celebration of Valentine day on the theme: “Chocolate: a Healthy Expression of Love”.
He said the celebration was expected to redirect people’s attention from the widely-held perception of promoting promiscuity to promoting the consumption of chocolate and other cocoa products.
“It is to educate the public on the health benefits of using cocoa products as well as enhance Ghanaian taste for locally produced goods so as to increase the sales of our local
products to boost the economic fortunes of the country,” Mr. Hammond said.
