The Governance Issues Forum (GIF), a project of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), on Tuesday organized a one-day training workshop on democratic governance for 36 participants drawn from the informal and formal sectors in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis at Takoradi.
The participants included media personnel, hairdressers, drivers, members of community and faith based organizations and officials of government institutions.
Speaking at the workshop Mr. Kojo Impraim, Project Officer of GIF, said the GIF was an integrative mechanism designed and introduced by IDEG to promote citizens participation in decision making and development at the local and national levels.
He said as an integrative concept, the GIF combines skills upgrading and public policy knowledge building with institutional platforms for effective civic engagement.
Mr. Impraim said this was to promote inclusive policy dialogue and mutual accountability between state and non-state actors towards poverty reduction, development and improvement of democratic governance.
“The goal of GIF is to enhance the capacity of citizens to participate effectively in decision making and development through purposeful collaboration with duty bearers in order to ensure equitable and accountable governance”, he added.
Mr. Impraim said the implementation of the GIF was in line with efforts at promoting participatory governance as enshrined in the constitution.
