The Nkawie/Toase Presbyterian Church in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, has been elevated to full district status with a call on Christians to shun all traits of self-centeredness.
The Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said Christians should epitomize Christ-like qualities in order to help transform the society.
He said it should not be lost on Christians that as they became more obedient to God and by walking on the right path, they would have tremendous influence on the lives of other people and salvage them from evil.
“Empowered by the Holy Spirit,” was the theme for the occasion.
The Right Rev Prof Martey observed that Christianity had in recent times been misrepresented by some self-seeking church leaders who for their own personal aggrandizement were circumventing Biblical doctrines and introducing some strange teachings.
He called on all true men of God to stand together and expose the charlatans denting the image of the Christian religion by misleading and duping unsuspecting people.
The Moderator underscored the need for Christians to have faith in God in all that they do as was demonstrated by the early Missionaries, stressing that, the likes of Abraham, Isaac and David went through difficult times yet they were successful in their Christian lives.
Christianity, he said, was not all about rosy and comfortable life and that Christians should be prepared to face challenges that came their way.
Rev Samuel Kwasi Frimpong, District Minister, said it was satisfying that the church had achieved full district status after decades of hard work.
He called on the members to be assiduous in the performance of their duties to advance Presbyterianism.
