Mrs Lucy Awuni, the Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, has said there are several interventions being introduced by the government to ensure that women got involved in decision making for development.
She urged assembly women to take advantage of the change and lead in pursuing their ambitions in the society.
Mrs Awuni said this when she launched a one day capacity building workshop for the Upper East Regional Assembly women caucus in Bolgatanga.
The workshop, which was on the theme Women in Governance, was organized by the Regional Inter Sectoral Gender Network (RISEGNET) and sponsored by Action Aid Ghana (AAG), a non-governmental organization.
Mr James Dauda Abang-Gos said the objective of RISEGNET was to foster collaboration and networking among all partners concerned with gender; to promote equitable development; to promote women participation in leadership and to advocate changes in bad customary practices.
He said though RISEGNET and AAG were not members of the caucus, it had introduced the idea of the assembly women caucus to ensure it
worked to promote a fair representation of women in development.
The one day capacity building workshop is to enable the women to learn and share more about the local government system and its planning processes.
