Joseph Quainoo, a 20 year old unemployed man, resident in Cape Coast, was on Wednesday, remanded in police custody, by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for assault and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing and assault and the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyarko, remanded him in custody, to be re-arraigned on Tuesday, May 3.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Ockom, told the court that on April 23 this year, the complainant, Master Derrick Howusu, who lives with his father at Mfantsipim School was on his way to buy drugs, when the accused approached him and asked for GHC1.00, but the complainant who is a student, told him he had no money.
Inspector Ockom said the accused was not convinced and forcefully put his hand in the complainant’s pocket and took GHC1.00 and a mobile
phone worth GHC30.
He said Howusu shouted for help but the accused took to his heels but the victims elder brother rushed to the scene and ran after Quainoo and was able to grab him.
The accused struggled with the victim’s brother and managed to bite the right index finger in a bid to escape, but his shouts for help brought the father to the scene.
Inspector Ockom said the boy’s father overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police.
