Management of University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) on Wednesday unveiled a plaque in memory of Dr Francis Appiah, Former Head of the Public Administration Department of the School.
This is in recognition of his immense contribution to academia and the University community as a whole.
Late Dr Francis Appiah was also the Executive Secretary of the National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (APRM-GC) Secretariat and a Secretary at the New Partnership for African’s Development Secretariat.
Dr Kofi Osei, Acting Dean of UGBS, unveiling the plaque, said it was in commemoration of the first anniversary of his death.
“The university community would miss him for his good human relations and the individuals he had impacted tremendously,” he added.
Dr Osei expressed the hope that students and lecturers would benefit from the books in their long thesis and projects for the School’s development, and expressed gratitude to the deceased’s family for the books that would serve as a remembrance of him.
Mrs Joan Appiah, wife of Dr Appiah, donated books to be used for research and reference purposes in his memory.
The collection of books includes history, sociology, physiology, accounting, auditing and other research books.
Dr Kojo Sakyi, Head of Department, Public Administration and Health Service Management, UGBS, said the deceased demonstrated instrumentality in the lives of many individuals through training in academia and other endeavours.
“His works should not be seen only in terms of books but also the support to the university community and Ghana as a whole,” he added.
Dr Baffour Agyemang Duah, a family member, thanked the management for the honour and expressed the hope that the relationship between the family and the university would continue.
He commended Mrs Appiah for her initiative to establish a library in honour of the deceased and asked for God’s blessing and strength.
In attendance were family members, Deans and staff of UGBS, members of the university community, students and other well wishers.
Dr Appiah 55, died on Thursday, April 22, 2010 after a short illness.
