Washington state authorities say they are trying to keep a serial sex offender and father of 22 children out of society indefinitely.
Donald Holmes, 65, avoided a life term in 2004 when five child rape and molestation convictions were thrown out and is due for release soon.
King County prosecutors are now moving to have him confined indefinitely as a violent sexual predator at a psychiatric facility on McNeil Island.
A state psychologist has termed Holmes a "psychopathic sexual predator" who manipulated young women, girls and their mothers to "feed his narcissistic needs."
Court papers state he himself has said: "I'm a womanizer. I've had mothers and daughters pregnant by me in the same house."
If he is ruled a sexual predator, Holmes would remain in state custody until he is considered treated but most such inmates stay there for life.
Holmes was charged with his first sex crime at age 20 in 1967.
"This is a man whose crime spree ran for 35 years, abated only by short prison terms," said psychologist Matthew Logan.
Holmes is in the King County Jail in Seattle.
