The sixth annual paragliding festival, opened at Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern Region, to promote domestic tourism in the country.
Twenty five pilots from the United States of America, Norway, France, South Africa, Australia and Saudi Arabia would be flying a
number of Ghanaians and foreigners from the Adwenanoma Mountain to the landing site at Nkawkaw at a height of more than 2000 feet above sea level.
The Minister of Tourism, Ms Akua Sena Dansua, said the promotion of paragliding was a conscious strategy by the Ministry and other
stakeholders to diversify tourism opportunities within the contest of sports and recreational activities.
She said, the festival was also a positive move to harness the natural, cultural and historical resources in the Kwahu area to
increase visitation and crate worth and employment for the people in the area.
Ms Dansua asked Ghanaians to take interest in domestic tourism, which according to her a priority of the Ministry.
She appealed to the public not visit tourist attractions only during festivals but to so during weekends and vacations to relax and keep the body and mind healthy.
Ms Dansua said the Ministry had constructed and inaugurated buildings, catering and entertainment facilities and vehicles while
others were under construction to facilitate tourism and micro and small scale business.
She appealed to the Kwahu South District Assembly to promote tourism to create jobs for the youth.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister , Mr Ebenezer Tei Larbi, called on the stakeholders in the tourism industry to develop tourism sites, which area in abundance in the Region to crate employment.
The Executive Director of the Ghana Tourist Board, Mr Julius Debrah, called on the private sector to work with other stakeholders to develop tourist sites through out the country to promote domestic tourism.
Mr James Agyenim Boateng, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, undertook a test flight to Nkawkaw.
