The Volta River Authority (VRA) through the Northern Electricity Department (NED) has positioned itself to supply power for the implementation of the Savannah Accelerated Development (SADA) programme.
Mr Amos B. John–Teye, the Acting Area Manager of VRA in charge of the Upper East Region, said this during a forum as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of VRA.
He said VRA through NED had for the past 50th years chalked a lot of successes and would continue to reposition and re-strategize itself in partnership with the government to implement the National Electricity Project (NEP) and Self Help Electrification Project.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, said the government was committed to providing electricity for the rural poor and that was why it sought 150 million dollars which would be used to provide electricity to 600 communities in the Region.
Officials of VRA took the participants through some of the routine activities and facilities including some electricity plants and explained how they functioned.
The participants asked questions including why there were constant power outages.
They expressed dissatisfaction at instances where they were not informed before the Authority put off power which mostly affected their gadgets.
Management of VRA explained some of the circumstances that led to power outages and said it was sometimes technical and were immediately
beyond resolution and appealed to customers to always exercise restraint and report any problem encountered to them.
