A Circuit Court in Cape Coast, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyarko, has remanded a 23 year old mortuary attendant, Atta Twum in prison custody for bolting with a KIA Pride taxi cab, valued at GHC 2,800.
He pleaded guilty with explanation, saying that, he had asked permission from the complainant, one Michael Fynn, to take the car to Bekwai to transport his personal belongings but the car developed a fault during the journey.
He said due to financial constraints, he was not able to repair the car immediately, so he came back to Cape Coast to mobilize some funds to fix the car.
The accused said he was however frightened to inform the complainant,whom he described as a stern man.
After his explanation, the judge entered a plea of not guilty for him and to re appear on Wednesday, May 4.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor told the court that Micheal Fynn is a car dealer and lives at Brofoyedur whiles the accused, Atta Twum, aka Atta Mortuary Man, lives near Abura Dunkwa, all suburbs of Cape coast.
Chief Inspector Agbezuhlor said on Wednesday February 9, this year, the accused went to Tantri, to assist a witness in the case, in his wife’s funeral,later the accused told the witness that he had seen a car in the complainant’s
house and that he should take him to the house.
Inspector Agbezulor said after meeting Fynn in the house, he (Fynn)agreed to give the car to the accused to work with it and render daily
accounts to him, but the accused after taking the car bolted with it.
The prosecutor said On Monday April 4, the accused was spotted at Iyedan and was arrested to the Central Police Station, where an official report was made.
Upon interrogation, the accused told the police that he had parked the car at Fomena, but upon reaching there, the car was no where to be traced.
Upon further investigations, the car was retrieved from a bush with its tires deflated and battery missing. The car has since been towed to the Police Station in Bekwai.
