The Nadwli Women Advocacy Group (NAWAG) and MTN Ghana Foundation have distributed Teaching and Learning Materials (TLM) to 124 basic schools in the Nadwli District.
The 13 page A1 size material covers phonics of English language compiled by Basic Best Educational service aimed to equip school children with the tools for decoding words and derive its meaning as they come into listening and reading environment.
The MTN Ghana Foundation is supporting the project with GH¢42,362.99.
Madam grace Bonye, District Director of Education who launched the TLM – “get it right with phonics” project said the activity formed
part of the NAWAG and MTN Foundation’s boys and girls retention enrolment and transition “B-Great” project.
He said the project would enable school children to exercise their right to education and grow up to realised their full potentials.
B-Great project is in to retain boys and girls in basic education in the District by providing support service such as reading clubs,
girls club and child right clubs provide monitoring committees for pupils at the community level.
Madam Bonye commended NAWAG and MTN Foundation for using multi-discipline approach to improve the quality of education in the area.
She said the group had supported the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide capacity development training for Head teachers, Circuit Supervisors and Curriculum leaders while 293 and trained teachers from 39 basic schools also benefited from training of trainers’ workshop.
Madam Bonye said apart from the provision of TLMs, parenting workshop in five area councils had been implemented to educate parents on child rights, parental responsibility and positive parenting skills to improve basic education.
Forty girls and 40 boys’ basic schools in the District were benefiting from B-Great project which was providing support for their continuous learning and success.
Madam Magdalene Kaumwaa, President of NAWAG said it was the aim of the group to support GES to provide quality education for children
in basic schools.
She said challenges facing schools in the District were well known to the group and gave the assurance that it would continue to assist the GES to deal with the problems.
