With the support of personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the taskforce also confiscated wares including mobile phones and cosmetics displayed by the traders.

The exercise led to series of confrontations between members of the taskforce and some traders, compelling the police to use a taser device to calm one aggressive victim.

The confiscated goods were later loaded on a van and whisked away by the taskforce to a location unknown to this reporter.

Visibly angry by the turn of event, the traders hurled insults at members of the taskforce for what they describe as “oppressive tactics” AMA.

“These goods will just be burnt. That’s my only investment and I don’t understand why he will seize and set it on fire. Please tell him to return them to me”, one distraught woman told The Ghanaian Times.

Meanwhile, the exercise allowed for easy movement by both vehicles and pedestrians at both ends of the interchange.

Hours after the taskforce left, some traders were seen returning to set up their tables on the pavements to display their goods.

The situation would take the worse form if authorities fail to station some of the taskforce personnel at the interchange to control trading activities.
