Officers of the security services – police, prisons and immigration, together with civil society organization, marked this year’s world anti-corruption day with a walk through the principal streets of Koforidua.
They held placards carrying messages such as “Support the police to fight crime”, “Trust the police”, “Report police misconduct to PIPS”, “Do not bribe the police” and “the police is a friend”.
The event was jointly organized by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition and the Federation of Private Enterprises. It was sponsored by the Open Society Initiative of West Africa (OSIWA).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Emmanuel Djan Kyere, the Eastern Regional Commander, reminded officers and men of the security services to uphold high standard of professionalism.
They should refuse to be corrupted and be civil in their dealings with the people.
This, he indicated, was necessary to help remove any negative perceptions and win public confidence. The Regional Commander called for the people to be bold to report any officer who misconducted themselves for appropriate action. Mr. Frank Odei-Anim of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, who spoke on behalf of the civil society groups, encouraged the police to do more improve its public image.
