When are we going to make rules work in Ghana? Indiscipline on our roads is resulting in unnecessary accidents and deaths. I believe every user of the road, whether motorist, rider, cyclist or pedestrian knows that red at the traffic lights means stop, amber, get ready to stop and green means go. Even the kindergarten children are taught this.
It beats one’s imagination when motor riders ride through the red light, with police traffice officers looking on. If a motorist honks, they rather throw their hands in the air and rain down insults as if they own the roads and can do whatever they like. Incredible!!
In our neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, where paths are constructed at the sides of the roads for riders, they religously obey traffic lights. There is total discipline in Burkina Faso. Red is understood as ‘Stop’ and everyone obeys. What can’t we get into our heads in this country?
Laws are made, nobody enforces because we are all too greedy and just too corrupt to bother. God help us!! This must stop if we want to make this country a haven for all of us. Our uniformed officers must learn to enforce the law. This country is going nowhere if we refuse to change our ways.
