Nana Simpeh Owiredu III, the Abene Krontihene, said the core values that brought about the annual Kwahu Easter celebration is being abandoned.
"The Kwahu Easter is celebrated to foster unity and development, it is a period when we come together as a people and strengthen family ties,'' he said.
He said, these days, some of the youth had misinterpreted the whole concept to just merry making and exhibiting bad behaviours, which did not reflect the true nature of the celebration.
Nana Owiredu said this when Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) donated a cheque for Ghc14,000.00, airtime worth GHc14,000.00 and drink hampers worth Ghc3,000 to the Kwahu Traditional Council including the Mpreaso, Obomeng and Obo chiefs to support the celebration of this year's Easter.
He expressed worry over some of the dresses the youth wore during the festivities and said going home for the Easter was to "deliberate on the welfare of the people and have good fun, but not to engage in excessive drinking and womanizing."
Nana Owiredu appealed to the media to educate the youth to be decorous in their activities during the celebration because whatever they did had an implication on the Kwahu Traditional Council.
He said the Traditional Council was collaborating with the Police to deal with miscreants to ensure sanity.
Mr Peter Bimpeh, the Senior Manager of South East Business District of MTN, said the support was to reaffirm the 12 years mutual relationship between MTN and the Kwahu Traditional Council.
He said MTN believed in the African culture and that served as a motivation to offer support to project the African heritage.
Mr Bimpeh said MTN would organise various social activities throughout the festive season, such as a costume festival along the principal streets of Mpreaso and Obomeng, and health screening for the aged to boost their health.
He said MTN would partner Adom FM to organise the Kwahu Kwanso, a highlife concert, pork party, mega street bash, Kwahu Easter games, gospel rock show and the Easter Monday Jam.
Nana Adwoa Gyemfuah III, Kwahuhemaa, said all Ghanaians must join in the celebrations, "however, our appeal is that they should dress decently when coming to the festivities to portray a good image of the Kwahu Traditional Area".
Nana Effah Opinamang III, Obomenghene, commended MTN for the innovation introduced into the telecommunication business, such as the mobile money services, as well as its support for development in various sectors of the economy.
