Mr Kwasi Bonzoh, Ellembelle District Chief Executive, has called on children within the Ampain Refugees campaign to take advantage of all opportunities available to make them responsible adults in future.
He also encouraged them not to be too bothered about their refugee status but rather, learn additional languages aside the French language to make them versatile in this modern age.
Mr. Bonzo indicated that the assembly under whose jurisdiction, the over 2, 828 refugees including more than 500 children resided, would continue to partner development and charity organizations to provide their health, education and welfare needs to make their living worthwhile.
The District Chief Executive was speaking at an event to mark this year's Day of the African Child at Ampain in the district on the theme: "Humanitarian Action in Africa: Children's Rights First".
The event brought together representatives from UNICEF, Plan Ghana, the Ministry of Gender, Social Protection and other child friendly agencies to remember the fight in 1970 by the black children of Soweto South Africa for better educational facilities just like their colleagues whites children.
On that day, many black children lost their lives in demanding their right and had been instituted as an annual event to drum home the need to hear the African Child, protect them and observe their basic right to education, health and shelter.
Ms. Esther Kiragu, the UNHCR Representative said currently, there were 13,000 refugees and asylum seekers living in Ghana for the period between seven and 25 years.
She said there was the need for concrete actions to create self realization developmental support in education, health, livelihoods, inclusion in social protection to enable quality assistance to affected individuals.
Ms. Anne-Claire Dufay, UNICEF Representative said Ghana had made great progress in observing the right of children but called for more equitable environment for every child to thrive.
She suggested that Ghana ratified the two conventions on stateless persons adding, "By these, Ghana can continue to demonstrate the leadership and commitment to ensure a fair chance for every child".
Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey, Acting Director of the Department of Children urged parents to register their births for the government to have adequate data in planning for the needs of children.
