The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), Mr Hayford Siaw, has said one of the Authority's key objective for 2019 is to ensure library spaces are more conducive and inviting for young people.
This, he said formed part of the reasons why GhLA declared 2019 as the "year of reading" to the youth interest in reading, which the Authority aims at achieving through support from partners and staff.
Mr Siaw said this at the inauguration of the renovated Eastern Regional Children's Library in Koforidua.
The children's' library is expected to ensure that children who visited the facility were treated with new paintings and art works, with new furniture provided at children's corner stocked with toys, pictures and books for children at the pre-school level and above.
The library received 2,725 new books donated by Book Aid International, a United Kingdom based organisation, which supports libraries in Africa and around the world with books.
Mr Siaw indicated that the children's corner at the library would help them in knowledge acquisition and make them adapt to the library concept at the early stage of life.
The Eastern Regional Librarian, Mr Evans Korletey-Teye, described library as the best place for kids during their leisure time and that it was advisable for parents to entrust their wards to libraries, especially during vacations.
"I know every child would like to be associated with this facility due to the elevation and transformation that has taken place here," he added.
He commended Book Aid International and the volunteers from RELX for their donation and training offered to Liberians at the children's library.
The Chief Executive Officer, Book Aid International, Ms Allison Tweed said her outfit was appreciative to be part of the launch of the first children's corner in Ghana.
She urged the children to read and make good use of the library, "because the library was a place to get more knowledge and understanding".
A Representative from United Kingdom RELX Team, Ms Yvonne Phillips, said they had come to serve the community by painting, shelving books and teaching the children.
