Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister has entreated all the 14 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCs) under his jurisdiction to provide the needed logistics for the April 6, disinfection exercise across the Region.
The Western Region will on Monday, April 6, witness a simultaneous disinfection exercise across the 117 major markets to contain and further hold the spread of COVID-19.
The Region has so far not recorded any case. Meanwhile, various entities and organisations have provided countless support in terms of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets, soaps and tissues across vantage points and entries of Organisations as a good step to stop the disease from entering into the Region.
The disinfection exercise, a project by the Ministry of Local Government with indigenous waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited to lead the exercise, would have the maximum support of the Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr. Darko-Mensah called on all stakeholders particularly market women to offer their maximum support to ensure the success of the exercise.
He said the Emergency and Rapid Response team had been reactivated among other measures in readiness for any eventuality.
The Regional Minister also reminded the Region of the need to follow all the existing protocols and carefully observe social distancing.
Alhaji Abdulai Abdallah, the Regional Manager for Zoomlion Ghana Limited said the exercise was in strict adherence to WHO guidelines on disinfection to reduce or avoid the spread of the virus.
He said the active ingredient in the chemical to be used for the disinfection is Chlorine and could eliminate most germs and virus including COVID-19 and assured the Region of a well thought through exercise devoid of any health hazards.
