The books were donated last Tuesday in collaboration with Books for Africa, Jump Africa and Child to Child Book Foundation.
The books of varied grades and subjects are to be distributed to Ghanaian children across the country.
Year of books
The Founder of the YALP, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, said the donation was made as part of plans by the organisation to take advantage of the GhLA Year of Books to help Ghanaian children develop a love for reading.
"The focus of the donation is to help Ghanaian children travel the world through books. The YALP thus decided to work to provide books for children all over the country and to take advantage of the GhLA's Year of Books initiative to donate these books," she said.
She stated that her organisation believed in investing in the minds of children for the future of the country and continent at large.
“Through books, you learn, you travel the world, you understand the world, and you become the global citizen. Our goal is that more and more Ghanaian children will develop the art of reading and a love for books,” Ms Asante added.
The Executive Director of the GhLA, Hayford Siaw, said the authority was on a journey to make sure that libraries were scattered all over the country so that both adults and children could have access to the resources.
Although the government had invested a lot to ensure that their vision would become a reality, Mr Siaw said there was a lot more to be done and that he was grateful to the leadership of the foundation for donating the books.
“Books are full of knowledge and you can travel anywhere in the world through books. You expand your thinking horizon and for that reason we believe that making books available is the key thing and so this donation today is quite remarkable,” he said.
Mr Siaw further called on corporate bodies and other stakeholders to emulate the gesture so that the Ghanaian child within any part of the country would have access to books.
The Yaa Asantewaa Library Project was set up in 2017 to help children in the country develop a love for reading.
The library project is a citizen initiative project, which means that Ghanaian citizens across the country come together to support and donate books to Ghanaian children.
