The Global Media Foundation (GloMeF), a media advocacy and anti-corruption Non- Governmental Organisation has congratulated Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour for his re-election as the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
It lauded the peaceful and democratic nature of the GJA national elections, describing it as "a fresh opportunity" for the GJA to reposition itself and remain formidable in the nation's governance landscape.
The Foundation gave the congratulatory in a statement issued in Sunyani and signed by Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, its founder and Chief Executive Officer and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday, appreciating the process of the elections.
It said: "Ghana is currently at a crossroads, battling with growing issues of corruption, poor governance, and accountability deficits", urging the association to actively "undertake her policing role in the nation's democratic journey".
The statement said, "we expect the GJA to stay off from partisan politics which will weaken its credibility", saying "excessive political infiltration into the affairs of the GJA will erode public confidence in its neutrality".
It said the "GJA must not be turned into an umbrella of any political party", calling on its President to prioritise and focus on strengthening the integrity, independence, and professional relevance of the Association.
The statement urged the new leadership of the association to also prioritize media freedom and welfare of journalists and promote high ethical standards.
