The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of eight Ghanaians who perished in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
In a statement dated Thursday, August 7, the Association extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Ghana, particularly the families of the victims, who were en route to Obuasi on a national assignment when the crash occurred.
“The Ghana Bar Association expresses its profound sorrow following the tragic deaths of eight patriotic Ghanaians,” the statement read. “We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the good people of Ghana, particularly to the families of these patriotic Ghanaians, who died in the line of duty.”
Quoting scripture, the GBA invoked comfort for the bereaved, saying, “May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, comfort the bereaved families.”
The Association concluded with prayers for the victims, stating, “May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior government officials—Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The Presidency on Thursday, August 7, 2025, held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Ceremonial Gardens of Jubilee House in honour of the eight individuals who lost their lives in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The ceremony formed part of a three-day national mourning period declared by the government to honour the memory of the deceased, which includes two senior government officials—Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed—as well as senior military personnel and party officials.
The crash has been described as one of Ghana’s darkest moments in recent history.

The flower-laying ceremony drew President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, senior government officials, members of the security services, family members, and citizens who came together in solidarity to honour the departed.
The government has announced that additional details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
