Over 6,000 out-of-school children have received literacy and numeracy support, with over 4,000 successfully transitioning into formal education.
This was disclosed by Plan International Ghana (PIGHA) through its Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP), implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
The nine-month initiative covered children aged between 8 and 16, who received literacy and numeracy instruction in their local languages for six to nine months. Out of the beneficiaries, 4,008 graduated from the programme, and 3,607 have been enrolled in 350 schools.
Although the project currently covers only the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions, the second cohort has already validated 6,463 additional children for 2026, bringing the total number of out-of-school children benefiting from the programme to over 10,000.
Speaking at Plan International’s 2026 media trainingon Monday, February 16, Kwaku Agyepong, Project Manager for the GEOP, noted that despite the significant progress made, facilitators continue to face challenges, including difficulties in mobilising children and obtaining parental or guardian consent.
