A field officer of the East Akim District Secretariat of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Ms Sophia Amponsah had observed that, if more women take up political positions in the country, corruption by political office holders could be reduced.
She explained that, experience had proved that women were better financial managers and more careful managers.
Ms Amponsah was speaking at a forum organized for religious bodies, opinion leaders and students at Kyebi on Tuesday.
She urged parents to give priority to the education of their daughters and explained that one of the main problems confronting women in advancing on the social ladder or becoming major players in the financial market of the country was poor education.
Ms Amponsah called on women to fight for emancipation and respect for their rights and not for equality with men.
The East Akim District Director of the NCCE, Mr F. M. K. Boafo, stated that social auditing was not directed only at political projects and politicians but could be applied at every level of society.
He said it was unacceptable for students to go on violent strike and destroy the property of the state just because they have got a problem with their teacher or headmaster.
Mr Boafo explained that social auditing was being introduced not to create confusion but to enable every member of the society to know his or her rights and responsibilities and to demand accountability from people in positions of trust.
He said as a nation, the citizens need to develop a system to support what they feel to be right and strongly reject what they consider to be wrong.
Mr Boafo said if by 2008, a lot of new political parties had emerged, it should not be an offence because the constitution of the country guarantees that and such developments should not lead to confrontations and violence.
