Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah, Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, has commissioned a ¢1.2 billion office complex for the Bawku Teachers Cooperative Credit Union Association (BTCCUA).
The event coincided with the 19th Annual General Meeting of the Union, which was on the theme "Credit Union: Enhancing Micro Financial through Capacity Building".
Mr. Gumah urged the teachers to work hard to shape the future of their students adding that as professionals, society expected them to exhibit exemplary conduct for the proper up bringing of children.
He said "It is a matter of regret that teachers could sometimes give bad example by laying down their tools to betray themselves."
Mr. Gumah also urged teachers to adopt acceptable means to resolve industrial disputes with government to prevent antagonism relationship between them and their employers.
He commended the Union for complementing government's efforts at reducing poverty by assisting members to enter into productive ventures to supplement their incomes.
Mr. Cletus Atugiba, chairman of BTCCUA, in his annual report, disclosed that the Union had mobilized over ¢3.8 billion as its net savings for the 2006 year as against ¢2.8 billion the previous year, representing 36 per cent increase.
He said within the same period, total shares of members also rose to ¢297.4 million from ¢202.5 million whilst the Union's total assets increased from ¢3.7 billion to ¢5.3 billion.
Mr. Emmanuel O. Darko, General Manager of Credit Unions Associations of Ghana, called on members use resources judiciously to enable the Union realise its goals.
