Mr Joseph K. Amoo, Assemblyman for Effia has appealed to Ghanaians to stop blocking access roads and other emergency routes to enhance accessibility by Fire Service personnel when there was a fire outbreak.
He said such acts, had led to the destruction of property and sometimes lives, due to the lack of access.
He noted that many people heaped sand, stone and firewood on roads thereby making them inaccessible.
Mr Amoo made the appeal when five people lost their properties when fire gutted their two-bedroom wooden house at Effia, a suburb of Takoradi on Tuesday.
One person, Richard Anaman, however sustained severe burns on his face and hands.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, Mr James Kwofie, one of the victims of the fire said they were asleep around 12.30 a.m. on July 22 when they heard shouts of fire.
He said they managed to escape from the two adjoining rooms while the fire spread but they could not pick any valuable item.
Mr Kwofie said though the fire service arrived on time, the fire had burnt the entire wooden structure to debris.
