Members of Pordenone branch of Mfantsiman Korye Kuw in Italy on Thursday presented assorted medical items valued at 20,000 Euros to the Central Regional Health Directorate at Cape Coast.
The items comprised 52 mattresses, 26 iron beds, 80 hand caped wheel chairs, 1,500 hand gloves, 32 bottles of cleansing alcohol, 22 theatre gowns and 50 medical uniforms.
Mr Frank Addo, Chairman and Advisor to the Union presenting the items said it was a gesture from Fantes from Central and Western Regions based in Italy to help improve quality health care delivery in the country.
He said the items would be distributed among Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital, Swedru, Mankessim, Abakrampa and Twifo- Praso Health Centres.
Mr Addo appealed to beneficiary institutions, to utilise them efficiently and effectively and maintain them well to enhance health care delivery in their communities.
Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister receiving the items, expressed appreciation to the Union for the gesture and appealed for more periodic assistance to health institutions in the Region.
He appealed to the beneficiary institutions to utilise them to enhance good health care delivery and teaching for medical students.
Mr George Dickson, Secretary of the Union appealed to Government to waive import duties on donated medical items.
He called on management of Ghana Health Service (GHS), to help and cooperate with organisations determined to present medical items to enhance health care delivery in the country.
Mr Dickson said similar presentation would be made to Western Regional Health Directorate next month.
